Glen Allen, VA—January 3, 2024—KnowledgeWorks Global Ltd. (KGL), the leader in transformative content solutions, has been named a Benetech Global Certified AccessibleTM (GCA) vendor. A global social enterprise nonprofit, Benetech focuses on providing equitable opportunities for all learners and issues this certification to vendors who produce files that meet a full range of accessibility features required to support the needs of all readers, including those with disabilities and learning differences.

Accessible Vendor Benetech Certified 200x200

Benetech’s GCA certification program is the first-ever, third-party EPUB certification program to verify eBook accessibility. As an approved vendor, KGL has demonstrated success consistently producing files in accordance with Benetech’s GCA certification standard, meeting the EPUB Accessibility 1.0 Conformance and Discovery specification and exceeding a publishing standard level of WCAG 2.0 AA.

As a top industry provider of cutting-edge content solutions, KGL has long been a champion of digital equality, designing and developing digital products that are born accessible. KGL has decades of experience offering expansive accessibility services: comprehensive accessibility evaluation of digital assets, accessibility remediation of web, PDF, ePub, art, interactivities, and media; and accessibility integrated workflows to develop born accessible digital products, learning courses, videos, and interactive content.

Evaluating KGL’s files in depth to check for over one hundred accessibility features, Benetech determined they are free of all WCAG violations and exceeded a “Benetech Born Accessible score” of at least 80% to earn the GCA designation. Assessments include page navigation and logical reading order; alt text for images; use of landmarks and semantic markup; tables, links, and lists that are correctly marked up; and correct accessibility metadata.

Atul Goel, President of KGL commented, “Creating content that is ‘born accessible’ opens new opportunities to expand the reach of publications beyond the page and screen. The same technologies and guidelines that improve access to materials for people with visual or hearing impairments, limited mobility, perceptual and cognitive differences can also help publishers connect with new audiences and markets. We are proud that Benetech has recognized our workflows as vital to furthering the mission of accessibility for all.”
