Strategic consulting will guide journal development, while an integrated publishing environment will connect manuscript submission, open peer review, published research, and supporting data and code

Glen Allen, VA —October 29, 2026—KnowledgeWorks Global Ltd. (KGL) today announced that it has been selected by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to develop the submission and publishing platform for the Journal of Replication and Reproducibility (JRR). The initiative brings together KGL’s strategic consulting, publishing technology, and editorial expertise to support NIH’s commitment to rigorous, transparent, and reproducible science.

Replication and reproducibility are fundamental to scientific progress, yet studies that confirm, challenge, or extend previously published findings have historically received limited visibility and recognition within traditional scholarly publishing. JRR aims to address this gap by providing a dedicated venue for replication research, as well as null results, along with work that improves the transparency and reliability of the scientific record. JRR will be supported by the NIH and will operate under a Diamond Open Access model, with no fees for authors or readers. The journal will be editorially independent and will seek broad participation from the global research community.

The journal will be supported by an integrated publishing environment that connects manuscript submission, open peer review, publication, and the underlying evidence supporting research findings. Submissions that pass initial checks will be posted publicly, along with their supporting data, code, and protocols, so the research is open to the scientific community from the outset. The platform will also incorporate managed computational environments designed to allow readers to rerun approved analyses using appropriate, nonsensitive data, making published research more accessible, verifiable, and reusable.

“We are honored that NIH has selected KGL to support this initiative and help make scientific evidence easier to examine, validate, and build upon,” said Atul Goel, President of KGL. “A key element of the initiative is KGL’s ability to bring together the strategic consulting, technology, operational expertise, and editorial capabilities required to support a complex scientific publishing program. Rather than treating submission, peer review, production, and publication as separate processes, KGL will provide a coordinated environment designed to support transparency, efficiency, and the connections between published findings and their supporting evidence.”

KGL Consulting will collaborate with NIH to establish JRR’s strategic and editorial foundations helping to translate the journal’s mission and the research community’s needs into a publishing model supported by practical policies, processes, and technology. The project will then build on Smart Publish™, KGL’s integrated publishing environment, while incorporating development tailored to JRR‘s requirements. The solution will draw on KGL’s established technologies, including Smart Submission™, Smart Review®, and the PubFactory hosting platform.
